Running to the Sea
Watching news of an all too familiar kind reminds a young man of his journey to and across the sea. The recurring horrors of the places he has been to and the forlornness of the place he is in right now reinforce his need to run and escape. Only gradually does he find sparks of hope by confronting his traumas and discovering common ground in a society that is otherwise foreign to him.

The music video is an attempt to shed light on the issues of refugees and asylum seekers in Europe, which have hardly been broached by popular culture so far. Rather than boasting with facts and figures or villainising any particular party, we are trying to reflect the thoughts and feelings of the individuals affected the most. In order to do this, the video was created in collaboration with a group of asylum seekers and is starring one of them. The shoot was partly documentary and quite an experiment overall. “Running to the Sea” almost seems like it has been written specifically for this context. Therefore, we hope that the song and our visuals will enable as many people as possible to get to know these incredible guys and make them more relatable than they seem on the evening news.
